China salt delegation, composed by 12 persons from China National Salt Industry Corporation, National Development and Reform Commission, provincial salt companies and sub-enterprises of CNSIC went to visit Great Salt Lake Minerals Inc. in Ogden, Utah, USA and Exportadora de Sal, S.A. de C.V. in Guerrero Negro, Mexico in June, 2006.

Great Salt Lake Minerals Inc. is located near the Great Salt Lake, which makes it rich resources of brine. The salt output of Great Salt Lake Minerals Inc. is 1.5 million tons, while the output of magnesium chloride is 400, 000 tons and the output of potassium sulphate is 400,000 tons. There are two other big salt facilities near the Great Salt Lake, one belongs to Morton and the other belongs to Cargill. The salt output is 400,000 accordingly.

Exportadora de Sal, S.A. de C.V. (ESSA in abbreviation) is one joint venture. 51% of its assets is controlled by Mexican government, while 49% is controlled by Mitsubishi Corporation. All products of ESSA are exported. The annual output of ESSA is about 7.5 to 8 million tons. The major market is United States and Eastern Asia. Japan imports 3-4 million tons per year, while United States import 2 million tons per year. All the sale of ESSA is controlled by Mitsubishi Corporation.
