The 2006 annual meeting of Salt Institute was held from Mar. 9 to Mar. 11 in Miami, Florida, U.S.A.. About 60 participants from U.S. A. and Europe attended this meeting. Mr. Mao Qingguo, President of China National Salt Industry Corporation, was invited to be there and gave a presentation about China’s Growing Salt Industry and China National Salt Industry Corporation.

The focus of this year is the relationship between salt production and environmental protection. Discussions were about science and policy-making on air and climate, land and land use and water issues. Low sodium diet and health was another important issue that drew much attention of salt participants.

Mr. Mao also had a meeting with Salt Institute on de-icing salt development in China. Responding to the suggestion raised by European Salt Producers’ Association and Salt Institute, China National Salt Industry Corporation agreed to organize the 9th Salt Symposium in 2009, China.
